SDL's Design Researcher, Chew Jia Ying has been selected as one of the participants for the Spring 2016 cycle of the YSEALI ("why-SEE-lee") Academic Fellowship on Social Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.

This prestigious 5-week program, conducted this March, is sponsored by the Study of the U.S. Branch in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and will be developed and delivered by University of Connecticut’s (Uconn) Global Training and Development Institute (GTDI).

Launched in 2013, the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is U.S. President Barack Obama’s signature program to strengthen leadership development across ASEAN, deepen engagement with young leaders on key regional and global challenges, and strengthen people-to-people ties between the United States and Southeast Asia.

JJ's guest lecture in Aalto University, Finland

On February 10, 2016, our Director, Prof. JJ will be delivering a lecture to Collaborative and Industrial Design Program (CoID) at Aalto University, Finland. She will share her experiences of promoting Service Design in the public sector in Singapore and discuss how to embed design capabilities and Service Dominant Logic within organizations.

On February 12, Prof. JJ will participate in the 10th Anniversary Seminar of Design Connections Doctoral School and discuss her perspectives towards doctoral education.

SDL signs MOU with the Ministry of Manpower Singapore

In January 2016, Service Design Lab signed a MOU with the Ministry of Manpower Singapore (MOM) to collaborate and coming up with design projects for MOM’s policy and public services. In addition to a series of design projects, SDL will develop participatory education programs for design capabilities within MOM, and MOM will provide internship programs for NUS design students.

LaunchPad Asia 2015 Finalist

SDL's Design Researcher, Chew Jia Ying and her team (Albert Lee & Corina Tan) were selected as finalists in the Launchpad Asia 2015 competition with their project titled "STITX", a stick-on organizer for your laptop gadgets.

Following the first Launch Pad Asia Competition in Singapore in 2014, the 2015 Launch Pad Asia programme was held in Hong Kong, in conjunction with Hong Kong Indesign 2015. The Exhibition of Launch Pad Asia 2015 Finalists’ Work was held from 19-20 November 2015 at Clestra's Showroom, downtown.

The team first luanched STITX on Indiegogo, a crowdfunding platform. They have since collaborated with local bag makers, UYII and have retailed this product at Keepers: A Singapore Designer's Collective as well as other lifestyle shops.
